A letter from Etienne,

I find it incredibly challenging to convey the mental and physical burden of life behind bars, especially when viewed through the lens of an individual serving a life without parole sentence for crimes they did not commit. However, it becomes nearly impossible to express the profound sense of injustice when I witness my peers being granted the chance to earn their freedom while I am deprived of any such consideration.

At this juncture, my claim of innocence is just one facet of the issue. Equally relevant is the question of whether I deserve the opportunity to demonstrate that I can reintegrate into society without posing a threat. I understand that this is a complex situation, but for those who believe in the power of redemption and personal growth I ask that you take the time to learn my story.

California is home to a multitude of skilled professionals who specialize in assessing an individual's readiness to reintegrate into society. I am pleading for the chance to prove to them that I have gained a deep understanding of the destructive choices I made in the past and that my life has undergone a profound transformation as a result.

Each day in prison is an uphill battle with dwindling hope and an enduring sense of dehumanization, a sentiment that should only be reserved for the truly incorrigible. Yet, I persist in my determination to better myself and assist others in recognizing their intrinsic worth along the way. I carry the weight of the harm I have caused, both directly and indirectly, and the remorse never truly fades. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic that my efforts toward change can bring about a brighter future for our communities as a whole.

Please help amplify my voice.
